A Canary Island Retreat
A timeless island retreat of natural beauty and endless possibilities, The Ritz-Carlton, Abama is designed to harness Tenerife’s unique climate, offering a holistic experience for guests of all ages. Mastering rest and play, by land and sea, the resort is the ultimate host for rest and relaxation, indulgence, wellness and active travel, consistently delivering with the warmth of service associated with its brand DNA and The Ritz-Carlton standards.
Surrounded by the natural beauty of Tenerife in the Canary Islands, The Ritz–Carlton, Abama features lush gardens, ocean views and an exclusive beach.
The south of Tenerife has a drier landscape and is more touristy than the north, but this is a peaceful spot far from any crowds. The resort is around half an hour’s drive from the airport, and 10 minutes from the nearby fishing village of Playa San Juan for restaurants and shops. The resort is huge and the main hotel is set back from the beach, so access is either via a train that runs twice an hour, or a seven-minute walk followed by furnicular (or steps in high winds).
The golf course snakes around the hotel; a transfer service ferries guests there and to the tennis academy above it. Transfers were prompt during my visit save for one wait to get back from tennis at the end of the day. Guests staying in the adults-only section of the hotel get their own golf buggies to get around; those in the villas down towards the beach have access to shared buggies.
